The buzz about The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team might be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
